Michaelangelo

We think a sport
coach, at any level, must approach his work in the same way.
There are many
reasons to practice sport ….. But at pro level, It s clearly a
social, physical and competitive need to help athletes to be the best
version of themselves.
Don t coach the guy,
Coach the version of the guy you want he becomes …. ! Trust in
your athletes !! You must create the ideal self your athlete
want to become, and show him the way.
But Be careful !!
avoid to clone yourself in your mentee. You should share your
experiences, give patterns but let your athlete discovers himself
many things. If women are often more « relationship
oriented », men are often « task oriented ».
So, To avoid this instinctual cloning tendency, men have to work hard
at really listening to the women they mentor,
focusing on the relationship more than the specific task being
discussed
Remember the Latin
Quote : USUS MAGISTER EST OPTIMUS which means « the
experience is the best master".
To be successful, an
athlete must work but also fail … Don t be afraid to let him fail,
and help him to get the lesson after each failure. Failures create
toughness and character.

How to give a promising athlete the key to go at the next level ?
The difference
between the amateur and the pro level in most of sports, is not about
performance, It s about the Attitude !
We can born with an
athletic potential and intrinsic talent for a specific sport !
But without work ethic and a huge will, a natural talent is almost
worthless.
Top level athletes
make the differences, not only with performance, but adopting the
verb « TO BE »…. To go at the next level, forget the
expression « to make a performance » , but use « to
be performant » !! You must change your mindset !
You must be also a
servant for your sport ! And have a true passion for it !!
Be always a student of your game ….
Only with your
athletic skills, you can be dominant at amateur level, but at Elite
level, the differences are based on details, and details are based on
Work ethic and attitude. At Elite level, in each sport, Everybody is
dominant. You can t make the differences only physically.
Like Baden Powell
said, « Be prepared » ! you can t be stressed
in a competition if you know your job and your own potential. Don t be
focused on your opponent, but only on yourself.
Your opponent is strong, only if you let him be strong in your mind.
Your mindset must go
beyond your body !!! trust your Body, let it do the work you
trained it for !!
Keep your attention
only on your mindset !!
Pourquoi recherchons nous la performance dans le sport ?
En
fait, la recherche de performance dans la sport a une motivation
principalement économique. La performance permet d'attirer des
médias et d'enregistrer des revenus publicitaires, mais animent
aussi toute une industrie du sport à la recherche de nouveaux
produits pour améliorer les chronos et les records. La performance
est aussi synonyme de très haut revenus pour une minorité
d'athletes.
Pourtant,
la performance, à tout prix, peut être très dommageable pour les
métabolismes des sportifs. Et, en fait, historiquement, la
performance n'a rien a voir avec le sport. La vocation initiale des
évenements sportifs, c'est le lien social … mais c'est aussi la
formation des esprits et des corps.
Le
lien social et la formation sont aussi des piliers d'un potentiel
Business model, reposant sur des projets …. Un club sportif qui
mettraient en relation des acteurs économiques pour la mise en place
de projets pourrait espérer des revenus, si les actions entreprises
sont couronnées de succès. L'enseignement peut aussi être une
source de revenus pour les clubs modestes.
Ainsi,
nul besoin de chercher la performance à tout prix et d'investir
massivement sur ce terrain. Un bon manager sportif doit savoir faire
avec ce qu'il a à disposition et son « marché ». Un
club dans une ville industrielle et un club dans une ville
universitaire ne pourront être géré de la même facon.
Le
sponsorat lié à la publicité pour les clubs modestes ne pourra
jamais atteindre des sommets. Dans la période économique difficile
que nous vivons depuis 10 ans, Il est donc impératif pour ces
derniers de mettre en place des partenariats locaux.
Il
faut toujours penser « projets » avant de penser
« argent » … soyez certain que si le
projet est bon, l'argent ou bien le bon partenaire apparaitront.
Si
la performance n'est donc pas un impératif pour la pérennité d 'un
club sportif, la qualité des évènements l'est. Nul ne veut être
associé à un club désorganisé et ayant mauvaise réputation.
Donc, j'invite les managers à penser en 3 étapes :

Etude de marché
2)
Projets
3 )
Responsabilité
Le
devoir principal d'un bon manager sportif n'est donc pas de chercher
la performance à tout prix mais d'inscrire son club dans la paysage local. Ainsi, il créera les liens pour assurer la pérennité
économique de son équipe.
